Da Guys….

Mar 30

In Friends, Lighting at 1:45am

The Gulf Photo Plus gang has just posted the video from the shootout with David Hobby, Zack Arias, and Joey L. It’s a hoot. As I mentioned in an earlier blog, the crowd was the real beneficiary of all the humor, sweat and photographic expertise that was on display during each shooter’s allotted 20 or so minutes. I hadda boogie to the airport, so I missed the processing of the Polaroid with Joey L, but I was privileged to kibitz a bit while David and Zack knocked it back. It was, at the end of the day, after all the “I will crush you” bantering that occurred, just an event based on mutual respect and friendship amongst all the instructors. That of course, and treachery, skulduggery, pocket wizard frequency manipulation, swiped Canon cameras, model mayhem (in the sense there were two, instead of the assumed one), and some dip in the audience with a microphone offering inane commentary.

Check it out HERE.

Joe, not sure if you caught it on DH’s blog yet, but he wrote this:

“And next time, I wanna be the one heckling Joe.”

so you have one year to prepare for this. ;)

Someone should re-post this video with proper aspect ratio. It’s a pain to watch a 16/9 video in a 4/3 ratio…

Hi Joe.
Thanks so much for posting this so that I could find the Shoot Out video.
Really interesting to see the inside of what a photography workshop looks like.
Regards
Nat

Nice one.. but I really don’t like the stunt Joey pulled, kinda stupid. Showing his age I guess..
Zack “won” imho.

Good luck with your latest session Joe!

Yeah, Hobby posted this yesterday… really cool! Someday I hope I’ll be worthy of harassment by Joe McNally. So, was there a winner or what? I thought Hobbys’ was the most creative. Joey L. was a bit too, uh, confident (consult a thesaurus for other appropriate descriptives).

Loading up the video. Will take sometime.

Looks like you guys and the audience had some real fun and learning.

Joe,

I normally read your blog through my RSS reader, but I clicked through to view this one on your site. I guess it’s the first time I’ve actually been to your site in a while, or the first time I saw a link in the post, but you should seriously consider changing the link style. Whether they know it or not, as many as 1 in 10 males are colorblind (I’m one of them) with red-green being the most common. Red text (dark red, as is used here, is even worse) is very, very hard to pick out from black text. The only reason I noticed that you had a link at the end of the post is because you made it very clear by what you wrote. Simply adding text decoration to links that are in the body of a blog post would help a lot.

Great vid. When I first read about Joey’s stunt on DH’s blog I thought it was a bit daft and maybe a bit of a cop out, but now I see it I think he pulled it off pretty well!

I’d vote for DH I think!
